US market research and consultancy gurus Elliot Gluskin and Jay Townley pool talents, forming the Gluskin Townley Group, LLC . “We see a great opportunity to provide information to an information-starved industry,” said Gluskin.

Industry info veterans merge

Gluskin and Townley have joined forces to provide custom research and consulting to US suppliers and retailers.

“We offer a single source for accurate marketing and solid research that will grow their businesses,” said Gluskin.

Gluskin’s 22 years of experience includes time served in the research departments of major publishing companies like McCall’s Publishing Company, Playboy Enterprises and the Meredith Corporation. Gluskin worked for more than ten years at Bicycling and Mountain Bike publisher Rodale Inc. as research manager and then research director.

Gluskin managed the major market studies on the US cycling market — the “Cycling Consumer of the ‘90s” and the “Cycling Consumer of the New Millennium.”

Townley is a 47-year veteran of the bicycle industry, having served as a top-level executive at Giant Bicycle, Schwinn Bicycle Company, Browning Bicycle Component, The Bicycle Council and his own bicycle tour company Venture Out Unlimited. Today he heads the business services group Townley & Associates, which manages the NBDA Retail Data Capture programme, often featured on BikeBiz.com, and The Bike Shop List, a mailing list of US IBDs.

The new entity will be a hand-holder.

“It’s not just a vendor-client relationship; we can be like your best friend,” promised Gluskin.

“We derive the information with studies, analyse existing data, and package it in an understandable format. Our strength lies in taking the numbers and turning them into a story you can act on."
