Episode 57 of The Spokesmen industry roundtable podcast was hosted by BikeBiz executive editor Carlton Reid. The show - usually hosted by David Bernstein of the Fredcast podcast - included guests Rich Kelly, the marketing manager of Interbike; Neil Browne, journalist for Versus.com and a variety of other cycling publications; and Jim Moss, a US attorney who "specializes in human powered recreation law."

Moss attended Thursday's trial of Martin Erzinger, the fund manager who drove into and nearly killed a cyclist in Vail and fled the scene. The Erzinger case has been a cause celebre in cycling for some weeks following the disclosure that the Vail district attorney had allowed a lesser misdemeanour charge to be put before the court rather than a more serious felony charge.

Following the court case, in which Erzinger was given probation, Moss discovered that Erzinger was the fund manager for the employees of Vail Resort.

During the trial, Erzinger's legal team said their client had fallen asleep at the wheel of his Mercedes - and hit the cyclist, a surgeon - because of a "new car smell."

Episode 57 of the Spokesmen podcast also talked about Bicycle City of South Carolina, a new community with bicycles at its heart; the BikeBiz story about the UCI's new 'approved by the UCI' stickers; and the commute-by-bike doctor in the UK who wrote a report in the British Medical Journal claiming that his cheap steel bike isn't that much slower than his expensive carbon bike
