The indoor show starts on Wednesday. The outdoor show started Monday.
It’s bigger than last year, with road suppliers lining the hill to the start of Bootleg Canyon at Boulder City, a 45-minute shuttle-ride from the Las Vegas strip. There are also the obligatory sunscreen sprayers – it is the desert, after all – and the annual stunt from rack makers, Yakima. Last year, Yakima had a full size pedal car. This year there’s a destruction theme: for a buck you can take a sledge hammer to a gas guzzler. All proceeds go to IMBA, the MTB trail access association.
Tomorrow, BikeBiz.com will feature the MTB action. Today, it was a Chinese carbon feast with test rides on Scott, Orbea, BMC, Giant, Trek and other carbon road bikes. Stiffest of the lot was the Storck.
And guess who wrenched the pedals? Markus Storck himself. The German carbon maestro – he’s been producing carbon frames for ten years – is a regular exhibitor at Interbike but this is his first year with an eezy-up tent at the Outdoor Demo Day.
Storck is joined by 150 other manufacturers and distributors, eager for US bike shop staff to test out their bikes/energy drinks/helmets and so on.
6000 or so attendees are expected to attend over the two days.
As well a roped-off smooth asphalt loop to test road bikes and recumbents, there’s a hairy downhill track, a rugged MTB course, a BMX track, and a new cyclocross course complete with barriers to leap over.
