Is cycle sport the new Rock 'n' Roll?

That's the question posed by the pre-publicity for Push Yourself Just A Little Bit More by Johnny Green, the former road manager of The Clash. The book, subtitled Backstage at the Tour de France, is published on 16th June.
Publish date:

The publicity blurb says Green, "gets behind the security cordon of Le Tour de France to provide a rock 'n' roll account of the world's greatest cycle race."

So, is this a book form of Scott Coady's film The Tour Baby, or a non-fiction account of the Tour similar to Freya North's 1999 novel, Cat?

Could be.

Here's some more blurb:

"Forget about all the po-faced journalism that usually reports 'Le Tour', Push Yourself Just a Little Bit More is the much more interesting story behind the battle for the Yellow Jersey. In his own inimitable style, Johnny Green reveals the outrageous showmanship, the characters great and small, the sex, drugs, rock 'n' roll, oh yeah and the cycling that makes the Tour de France one of the great sporting events in the world!"

Green's book is a merged account of the 2003 and 2004 races.

"Viewed from inside the security cordon, Green mingles happily with the cyclists, press and the 'Credit Lyonnais trophy girls'. After blagging his way right to the inner sanctum, he chats to the likes of Sheryl Crow and David Millar and the many stagehands behind the scenes on the three-week tour."

Green's previous book, A Riot of Our Own, was about his time as road manager for The Clash.
