Italy plans 422-mile cycle path

Motorway-esque 'VenTo' could be coming to North of the country, but would it end up clogged with middle lane-hogging cyclists?
Publish date:

Northern Italy's VenTo cycle path project – set to span 422 miles between Turin and Venice – could become a reality according to a report in The Guardian.

Campaigners have been trying to get the plans off the ground for over three years and recently met with culture and tourism minister Massimo Bray, who praised the idea and said the project could tie-into the Universal Exposition in Milan in two years.

Costs, expected to reach €80m, are predicted to be offset by tourism benefits and the creation of around 2,000 jobs in hospitality and related sectors.

There's more on the project at The Guardian.
