"Ultra-lightweight carbon fibre frame, state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies, optimized ergonomics…" MAMILS eat yer heart out this isn't a description for a Dura-ace equipped dream bike it's the blurb for a bicycle without gears, without a chainset, without gears, without pedals even.

The Petitpierre from Mores Design of Munich is a high-end balance bike for children. First popularised by Kokua of Germany, the wooden Likeabike spawned a huge number of competitors, some of whom made balance bikes from aluminium but Sebastian Mores has gone one better, producing his monocoque balance bike from the sort of high-end composite materials previously used on high-end bicycles.

The product was launched in Germany in March and has already racked up a not-too-unsurprising number of awards. The latest nomination is for the ISPO BRANDNEW AWARD and will be presented at the trade fair ISPO BIKE in Munich in July. Mores is seeking more stockists for his bike. Currently three high-end German bike shops stock the Petitpierre - Schlichting in Munich, La Culla in Mainz and Finest Bikes in Starnberg.

The Petitpierre's frame weighs 600 grams.

Mores said: "The Petitpierre is manufactured like a high-end bike for adults. Kids are at least as ambitious as their parents."
