Klunkerz was released on the film circuit in 2006 by director/producer William Savage. It's a documentary about the roots of mountain biking and features such luminaries such as Gary Fisher, Joe Breeze and Charlie Kelly and many other Repack pioneers.

Available as a DVD from the movie's website via Amazon, Klunkerz is never off the film festival circuit and has just been lauded at the Boulder Adventure Film Festival.

In January the movie will be showcased at the 17th Annual Endurance Sports Awards at Marine World in San Diego, California, where Levi Leipheimer is expected to pick up the 'rider of the year' award.

Klunkerz will be showcased alongside the classic road cycling movie Breaking Away.

Savage remains immersed in the early history of mountain biking.

"New photos have been surfacing constantly from all the sources that I went to originally," Savage told BikeBiz.com.

"I'm very happy that I got some of the pioneers to realise the historical value in these images and that they need to be digitised and protected.

"Mostly the materials were sitting in dusty boxes in dank Northern California garages until I came along. I think I got some of the guys motivated about preserving their history.

"I know I just scratched the surface with Klunkerz as far as archived material goes. It took me a couple of years of looking and asking, in places as far away as Brazil, to find that much."
