Langan likes Mothercare. Not.

Dominac Langan, Madison's commercial director, is a new father. How do we know this? He penned a piece for RetailWeek describing his experience in Mothercare World in Watford. Bike shops watch out: he's a stickler for staff going that extra inch

Every week the trade magazine 'Retail Week' carries a back page pros and cons piece about reader's favourite and least favourite shops, Good Shop/Bad Shop.

Dominac Langan wrote this week's 'bad shop' piece.

"With the recent first addition to my family throwing me into this hitherto unexplored retail sector, I went to buy a car [child] seat," writes Langan.

He was disappointed with the service he received in his local Mothercare World. No staff approached him in the half an hour he was in store and when he asked to buy the seat he had selected, the assistant he approached was woefully lacking in the 'can do' department.

"She wandered around the store looking at where the seats were stored, said they did not have any left.

"There was no 'I can order it for you,' or 'how about this similar seat', or 'let me ring around some local branches for availability.' Just a lost sale."

A lack of staff training, perhaps?
