Trek is to re-introduce LeMond road bikes thanks to growth in the roadie market and a keenly-priced entry-level model

LeMond comes racing back to the UK

Last seen in 1998, LeMond bikes will be back this side of the pond from August.

Trek dealers will be given first shout and if enough sign up the LeMond brand will stay with Trek stockists only.

The 2002 range kicks off at £600 rather than the £950 starting point of three years ago. The entry level bike is sourced from Taiwan, hence the keener price.

Brian Buckle of Trek believes there’s now more room in the UK market to launch another road brand and that UK IBDs are more receptive to the road bike message.

"Dealers attitudes to the road bike market have changed a lot since 1998," he said.

The differences between Trek road bikes and LeMond road bikes are also now more pronounced, said Buckle.
