London to Paris – by bike?

Proposals for inter-capital cycle route revealed ; Could be ready in time for 2012 Olympics
Publish date:

Plans for a cycle path stretching the 218 miles from London to Paris have been unveiled, according to this report on the Environmental Transport Association website.

British and French councils hope the route will be in place in time for the 2012 Olympics, consisting of largely traffic-free tracks running from London to Wandsworth and Croydon, through Surrey and East Sussex and arriving at the Newhaven to Dieppe ferry crossing.

Costs for the British side of the route are estimated to reach up to £30 million, but European Union funding may be available for the track, which would include signage in both languages.
