“BikeStockExchange.com is an exciting new way of selling your used bicycles online,” claims the home page of Smallwood and Peake’s new site.

“With dealers almost totally disinterested in offering reasonable prices for used bikes, and printed media taking months to go to press, BikeStockExchange is the immediate way of getting your old iron in front of loads of potential buyers.”

It has kicked off with no bikes for sale in any other UK region other than the Midlands. Bike shops are selling off brand new bikes at 15 percent discount.

One IBD told bikebiz.co.uk today that they were cold called and said they could put brand new bikes on the site for free “to get the ball rolling.”

Six B1 bikes are being sold by the IBD, and other IBDs have also placed new bikes on the site, which has only just launched so has yet to build up a database of pukka used machines.

Sellers pay the site £5 per bike for a five week text advert.

Bikestockexchange.com has plans to advertise regularly in cycle consumer magazines.

The site also has advice and information for both buyers and sellers, and a telephone service allows valuations to be offered free of charge.

When more used bikes have been loaded to the site’s database, IBDs will be able to advertise up to 10 bikes for a set fee of £25.
