Maxxis brought a brand new range to Taipei

Maxxis unveiled a number of new tyres across multiple categories, including its first ever tubeless ready BMX tyre, at this year’s Taipei Bike Show.

The tyre specialist has extended its offering in the Road, Cyclocross and BMX markets, as well as introducing new DoubleDown and DH variants of its MTB range, including the High Roller II, Aggressor, Shorty, Minion DHF and Minion DHR II.

The new Torch tyre is the first tubeless ready BMX tyre from Maxxis, designed specifically for racing and features a large air capacity. Currently the lightest BMX tube weighs between 30g to 40g, however, the new Torch design cuts out the extra weight and gives riders a lighter, tubeless product. The tyre will be available in the 20×1.75 size only.

Managing director Derek McMartin commented: “We are fully committed to becoming the one-stop shop for high-quality bicycle tyres so extending our product ranges to offer a vast choice to all types of cyclists is a key part of that strategy.

“When it comes to product innovation we strive to be the best that we can be and ensure that we are always investing into researching and developing the most cutting edge products, which incorporate the latest technologies, designs and materials that the market has to offer.

“Taipei is among the most important events in the global cycling industry calendar so it’s apt that we were there with a stronger presence than ever, unveiling a number of new and exciting products and variants to some Maxxis classics; most importantly we were demonstrating that we mean business when we say we want to conquer all cycle categories.”

The manufacturer is also introducing two new versions of Minion DHF and DHR ll tyres and one new version of the Shorty tyre. The new options have been modified to sit alongside the tubeless ready High Roller II tyre. Additionally, the new models have been designed with the Wide Trail technology for use on rims with an internal width of 35mm. All three will be available in 27.50×2.50WT, in both folding aramid bead and wire bead.

The Minion DHF and DHR ll will also be available in the bigger plus size of 27.50×2.60, which has 7 per cent more air volume than the 2.50 and will be folding bead only.

Maxxis will be extending its DoubleDown offering with the addition of the Highroller ll DD tyre, which will be available as a tubeless option in a 27.5×2.50 Wide Trail design, with a 3C MaxxTerra compound and an aggressive tread design which gives this particular tyre increased soil penetration and mud clearing ability. The Aggressor tyre will also be launched in the 27.5×2.50 Wide Trade size.

Maxxis is further increasing its presence in the market by expanding into the studded tyres category with three new tyres designed to provide extra grip for the most icy winter conditions, designed for mountain bikes and standard bicycles. The design at the bottom of the studs means that once they have been secured onto the tread body they are unlikely to detach, are simple to replace and don’t puncture the tyre’s casing.
