New bicycle shop and cafe Rockets and Rascals opened for business over Easter weekend.

The 2,300 square foot store is set within a grade one listed building in Plymouth's old Barbican district.

The cafe serves Devon Coffee as well as locally made cakes and snacks. The retail area, meanwhile, sells bikes and clothing including city bikes from Bobbin, Marin and Koga, as well as performance bicycles from Koga, Yeti, Mondraker, Turner, Whyte, Bianchi and Argon 18. As well as cycling specific clothing, Rockets and Rascals also stocks casual wear and accessories from Deus Ex Machina and Stance.

Their workshop is run by mechanic Chaz Curry – also a director of the business – known for his involvement in Juice Lubes and the Wide Open downhill team. The store's design concept was created by Steve Toze's 'Shred Creative Agency', the people behind Shred Bicycle Magazine.

Toze said: "I worked in my first bike shop when I was 14 years old and have always loved the cycle retail environment. Plymouth has some good bike shops and whilst it seemed logical that I should open a bike shop I never really felt like it was the right time.

"With Plymouth bidding to become a City of Culture for 2017 and with investment and interest in cycling within the city on the rise Plymouth is poised on a cultural revolution that the bicycle can help shape. We wanted to be part of that and in just a few weeks we've been amazed by the response towards the store."
