As previewed previously on BikeBiz.com, the German publishing house Verlag Moderne Industrie has launched an international journal on urban planning, cycling policy, mobility research and development. Cyclingmobility is subscription-only and has a UK editor.
As well as a print mag, Cyclingmobility will be available on the iPad. The mag is available now, the iPad app has yet to launch.
The Cyclingmobility website has teaser articles but much of the content is behind a paywall, available to subscribers only.
Cyclingmobility will focus on best practice examples and case studies from around the world.
Aimed at national, regional and local government officials, urban planners and planning departments, public transportation specialists, architects, cycling officers, cycling advocacy groups and decision makers in the bicycle industry,Cyclingmobilityis said to deliver answers to those who face the question: “How do we get larger metropolitan areas and cities out of gridlock, while simultaneously improving the quality of life and general health of inner city inhabitants?”
Kent-based Ross Ringham, editor in chief of Cyclingmobility, said: “In cities worldwide, from Denver and Washington to London and Seville, bike sharing programs are already very popular, encouraging people to use bikes as an alternative to cars, buses, scooters and motorbikes. An ever-increasing number of communities across the globe are developing similar schemes to solve the complex issue of inner city mobility.
"Cyclingmobility will not only deliver city planners and politicians useful and usable information, but it also enables more informed decision making within the tourist, courier and bike industries.
"Ultimately, this journal aims to positively influence both the economic and environmental issues that cities and policy makers face."
Subscription costs are $129, £79 or 96 Euros.
When the first print copy of the magazine reached Ringham, he tweeted:
"First issue of Cyclingmobility in my hands. Wow. Weighs a ton, thick as a brick – this is coffee-table stuff."
