Exal NV is a new company, fifty percent owned by former managers at bankrupt Belgian rim-maker, Alesa. The other fifty percent is owned by German rim-maker Schurmann Fahhradteile. Bill Nichols believes the move has "important implications for manufacturers and after-market wheelbuilders."

Nichols Agencies will be the UK and Irish agent for Exal rims

Rigida-owned Alesa went bankrupt in May.

The new company has opened a production base in Hoogstraten, Belgium although rims will be made in Schurmann’s German plant for a few months.

Exal NV will not benefit from any of Alesa’s former machinery as this was taken back by the Rigida Group.

Gust Van der Kerken, the former president of Alesa, is MD of Exal NV.
