Nike has made no offer to Trek, Burke tells BikeBiz

The rumour – rapidly gaining ground since first surfacing at the Taipei show – that Nike had made a $400m offer for Trek in the US, but had been rebuffed, has been denied by Trek’s president

John Burke emailed bikebiz.co.uk and said the rumour was untrue.

When bikebiz.co.uk asked “No truth whatsoever, then?” Burke replied:

“That would be correct.”

Trek, does however, have good links with Nike. At the end of June last year the companies signed a five year apparel and show co-operation agreement with a five-year renewal option.

At the time Burke said the alliance with Nike – where Nike gained access to Trek’s IBD network worldwide - was a winner for Trek:

“[The agreement] allows us to work with one of the best brands in the world and gives us access to R&D, sourcing, technology and design. It gives us the ability to offer a world class line of shoes and clothing to our retailers.”
