Canadian jump-star Dave Watson was The Guardian's winner in the Alternative Sports Personality of the Year Awards, with Tyler Hamilton third. A football manager was second in the third annual running of the British newspaper's alternative awards. Watson was given the gong for his leap over the tail-enders in peleton at last year's Tour de France. Hamilton was in the reckoning because of his bravery at continuing to ride in the same peleton each day, despite a cracked clavicle.
