"What happened last Sunday is unbelievable and a complete shock to the whole cycling community," said Wiggins.
"It’s hard to imagine that these four cyclists were out on what is a normal Sunday club run never to return home. My condolences and sympathy goes out to all the families involved.
"It’s extremely hard for all cyclists not to blame the driver at this moment in time and I for one certainly believe that more needs to be done regarding driver education.
"Drivers do not give cyclists enough respect or space these days, and don’t seem to adjust the way they drive to suit driving conditions or the road they are on.
"I have been riding a bike since I was 12 years old and know what it’s like and how hard it hurts to hit the tarmac at speed. When riding in difficult and dangerous conditions we all adjust our speed accordingly and the same goes when we are behind the wheel of a car. If nothing is done and drivers don’t take more note of cyclists then I can’t see things improving as the roads just seem to be getting busier."
