Outdoors Industries Association ramps up FMD efforts

The OIA (formerly COLA) continues to be proactive in its efforts to protect the earnings of its members
Publish date:

In an email sent today it advises members of a number of news worthy happenings. What follows is almost a straight lift from the OIA email, much of it could be used, or be adapted, by the bike trade...

The Scottish Executive has published a very useful advisory leaflet - The

Comeback Code - aimed at walkers and other countryside users in Scotland, but equally relevant to outdoor enthusiasts in other parts of Britain.

Copies of the code can be downloaded from

The Camping and Caravan Club opened 60 of its sites earlier this week and

reported that the majority of its sites are expected to be open for the

Easter holiday period. Details are available from the clubs website www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk or telephone hotline 024 7647 6808.

The first step walk, featuring influential figures from the nation's outdoor

industries, is aiming to get tourism in the Lake District back on its feet.

The walk has been organised by the outdoor sector with the objective of

demonstrating to the media and public that the Lake District and other

popular areas are still very much open to tourists.

Stepping out from The Market Cross, Ambleside at 11am on Saturday 07 April, the group will be setting out to enjoy a tarmac-based walk. Figures such as Chris Brasher, Chris Bonington and Peter Rabbit are all eager to lend a hand (or paw!) to support this worthy cause.

All OIA members have been sent a single page questionnaire seeking

information on the impact of FMD on the outdoor sector. This will give the OIA the ammunition to continue to press for urgent action to support the outdoor sector as well as farming and tourism.
