Outdoors Show gets thumbs up from bike trade

The Ordnance Survey Outdoors Show at the NEC attracted 35 000 consumers since opening the doors on Friday. The ACT stand was always busy, said ACT president David Wilsher. "This proves it makes sense to show bikes to the public," he said

The ACT booked a stand at the show and peopled it with ACT bods and members of the Dealer Development Group, including representatives from Giant, Gill, Fisher, Kona, Madison, Mission, Raleigh P&A and Saracen.

"The ACT stand was never empty of consumers wishing to know more about the bike products and where the cycles and other items could be purchased," said Wilsher.

"The folding bikes from Raleigh and Mission were very popular on the indoor test track and even during the rain the outdoor track was in constant use with bikes being put their paces thanks to the CTC.

"The public should see the products we hide away at trade shows. And it's important to promote bicycles next to those stands promoting cycling. There were lots of tourist information and local authority stands which were big into cycling."

The show will be bigger next year with three halls at the NEC already booked.

Because of the success for cycling at the inaugural Outdoors Show, Wilsher would like the National Cycling Forum to increase cycling's presence at next year's show.
