Phil Liggett's CTC challenge ride may go nationwide

CTC director Kevin Mayne told BikeBiz.co.uk that the success of the Phil & Friends Challenge ride meant there was scope for more such rides in other parts of the country. 550 people rode the Peak District ride last weekend. But what was Phil Liggett riding?

His custom-built carbon-fibre Trek, of course.

This has 'Never gets passed' on the top-tube (all the Trek custom-built specials can have text embedded in the frame).

The CTC president and Tour de France commentator chatted with riders at the various tea-stops en route. He was joined on the ride by the same crew who cycled with him in last year's event, including author Graham Fife, Tour de France veteran Brian Robinson, and BikeBiz editor Carlton Reid.

Those doing the full 96-mile ride had to cope with climbs up Winnats Pass and Monsal Head, famous lung-bursters that used to sort the wheat from the chaff in the Milk Race (former organiser: Phil Liggett).

The Phil and Friends ride raises money for the CTC's Cyclists Defence Fund.
