Pipedream Cycles has announced a limited run of a new frame - dubbed the X R931 - crafted from the Reynolds tubing, said to be strong enough to be cold-drawn to tube walls around 0.4mm thick.

With a tensile strength approximately double that of Ti 3A1/2.5V, the frame weighs just 1.8 kg (3.96 lbs) for the 18.0″ and all sizes are sub-4 lb. Titanium has a lower density, but the tubesets most commonly used have tube walls of around 0.9mm with butted sections in the region of 0.7mm.

"Pipedream are maybe a 'dark horse' among the British steel brands, but they've been around for seven years. It seems that every time they surface and release a new frame it's to critical acclaim. With big plans for the future, their latest addition to the line-up is something really special," said Alan Finlay of Pipedream. "With the ambition of offering the closest thing to a custom built bike, their features list certainly ticks all the right boxes. Building bikes has always been our dream and we hope to make complete bikes ourselves soon."

Just 100 of the X R931 will be available and the firm has employed the help of marketing firm Max Bikes PR to help the promotion of the product.
