Use a cheap flimsy freezer bag to protect your smartphone while on your bike?
New to the UK, pOcpacs are being pitched as a more reliable to make-do solutions, like freezer bags, in protecting the valuables of cyclists.
Designed by two brothers from South Africa – both engineers and keen mountain bikers – the pOcpac water resistant lifestyle/cycling pouch is manufactured from recyclable materials which has memory and elasticity, and becomes smaller when filled.
The pouches fit the majority of cycling jersey pockets with our newly designed RES system, Round-Edge-Seal system, pOpacs promises. That means, the firm says, that over time the water resistant pouch will become easier to insert and remove.
The pOpacs are being brought to the bicycle trade via Northern Albion. They're currently available online but the distributor is looking to develop its High Street relationships to bring the pOpacs to a wider audience.
Northern Albion is a new company seeking to bring innovative new products to the cycling market.
”We were very excited when we saw pOcpac following the Velocity Racing Team on Twitter at the end of 2011," explained Northern Albion director Andrew Thomas. "They decided to sponsor our team and from then an agreement to help develop and distribute the brand in the UK evolved. Although there are other water resistant pouches there is nothing like this range designed by cyclists for cyclists.”
Three pOcpacs make up the range: The iPac (£6.99) – for keeping your smartphone, cash and credit cards dry, the Road Pac (£9.99) – for spare road tubes, tyre levers and combination tool or CO2 canister, and finally the Off-Road Pac (also £9.99) – a larger version made to accommodate an off-road tube and accessories.
