Polaris Bikewear has launched the Polaris Pit Stop cafe scheme this winter in the Peak District to celebrate 25 years of business.

The Pit Stops are kit boxes designed for unexpected road repairs – from spare tubes to cables, split links, cable ties, lubes and tools – with a small charge for the parts and all profits going straight to the Peak District regional Mountain Rescue team.

Initially they're being retailed in six popular riding destinations in the Peaks: Bank View Cafe-Langsett, Norfolk Arms - Ringinglow, Eyam Tea Rooms - Eyam, Penny Pot Cafe - Edale, Palmers Cafe - Calver and Longshaw Cafe on the Longshaw Estate.

“Everyone knows that the cycling routes in the Peak District are some of the best in the UK, if not the World," said Polaris Bikewear MD Roger Dillon. "We are proud to be part of the cycling community in the Peaks and are aware nothing ruins hitting the trails or roads in the Peaks more than an unforeseeable bike repair; this is where the Polaris Pit Stop scheme steps in."

Pete Sparks, owner of Bank View Cafe, added: "Every cyclist knows there's nothing that ruins your day more then being stranded halfway round your ride with a mechanical that you're not prepared for! There is really nothing sadder than the sight of a miserable cyclist watching their mates ride off while they sit hunched over yet another cuppa waiting for their other half to turn up with the car!

"We get loads of cyclists coming through our doors and its fantastic to be able to provide yet another service to them. Hopefully we'll be able to sort out any problems and get them back on the road in the time it takes to drink a cup of tea!"

Polaris said: "We are proud to be supporting cycling in the Peak District and hope its Pit Stop scheme really comes to the aid of riders in need, whilst raising money for vital Peak District services. If businesses are keen to be involved in the scheme themselves they should contact Polaris Bikewear directly."
