MTBreview.com gets 25 000 visitors a day with 5000 of them taking a look at the secondhand bike mart. And its not just US visitors, there are plenty of Brits too. In the nominate a trail feature, 122 rides have been posted. The thread on Coed y Brenin has additional comments from 27 UK riders.
Its this auto contribution aspect of MTBreview.com which makes it so powerful. The site is one of many run by ConsumerReview.com and is almost wholly made up of content and reviews provided by the visitors themselves, who, in effect, are making up their own magazine as they go along.
MTBreview.com has just been joined by sister site, roadbikereview.com. This is based on the same format. Amongst a load of other interactive features it allows rider to post pictures of their favourite bike or themselves in action.
The photogallery contains row after row of self-uploaded shots of road bikes photographed against walls, a sort of readers wives for bikes. Visitors to the site can add comments.
Max Headroom (yeh, right) of the UK posted this comment against a shot of a Bontrager roadbike:

My gosh dude - that is one awesome drop to the bars. Doesn't your neck get roasted? It sorta looks like a mountain bike but that makes sense since it's a Bontrager, right? What does that thing weigh? Is it under 10 kg? Max - UK.
IBDs will soon be able to post bikes for sale on the two ConsumerReview sites although to date it has been for readers own bikes and bits only.
UK portals could learn a lot from MTBReview.com and RoadbikeREVIEW.com.
