PressCamp is a six year old event and has been staged in the ski resort of Deer Valley, Utah, for the past five years. Every other event has been bathed in sunshine; this year has seen a heavy fall of snow, kiboshing plans for afternoon bike rides – that is, apart from a XC ride in the snow by the Fabric crew, and a quick downhill on Pivot DH machines by the BikeBiz pair. The lifts were closed but we managed to sneak on a shuttle up the mountain before the snow got too heavy.
There are 31 journalists at the event, from titles such as Wired, Outside, and Bicycling. Even cultofmac.com is here (don't ask). Brands present include Camelbak, Cannondale and Kali. GT is here mopping up journalists who weren't at last week's launch of the Grade "enduroad" bike. Nick Larsen of Charge, a CSG company, is flying the flag for Britain (literally, he has union flags in his condo) and is here to launch CSG's new flagship OE brand, Fabric.
The usual schedule is one on one brand presentations in the morning and rides in the afternoon. After heavy snow caused the rides to be cancelled snow-ball fights broke out. Snow in June is highly unusual for Deer Valley.
BikeBiz.com will be reporting from the event for the rest of the week. The Twitter hashtag is #dvpresscamp.
