Tandem Group plc has today announced its plans for Dawes Cycles, including an admin staff relocation and an absorption of the manufacturing into its existing plant at Brigg, North Lincs

Production of Dawes bikes to move to Brigg; half the Dawes staff to lose their jobs

Dawes Cycles will move to a new location in the West Midlands in early 2002. All manufacturing will move to Brigg.

"The proposed losure of manufacturing will involve certain job losses," said a statement from Tandem’s Paul Vicary.

"But it is estimated that approximately half of the job functions will be retained in the West Midlands area."

Tandem Group plc acquired Dawes in June and says Vicary is "confident that the business will return to profitability as a result of improved efficiency and fixed cost reductions."

No word yet on the future of Dawes’ Tandemania.com, although founder Pete Bird was made redundant some weeks ago. Tandem are still said to be very mkuch interested in, er, tandems.
