Nottignham city council's development control committee has, again, granted planning permission for Raleigh's new factory on what are currently allotments.

The planning permission was first granted in June but objections from Bulwell allotment holders, and a wildlife conservation group, put the permission on hold pending further investogations.

The council has now finished a thorough environmental impact audit. No newts - or other aniamls - were found to be threatened by the building of the £14m factory.

And a threat to Raleigh has also been lifted: the Government Office for the East Midlands has decided the planning application should not be referred to the secretary of state

Raleigh sold its Triumph Road site in 2000 (to the University of Nottingham) and needs the Bulwell factory up and running by July 2003. Ground will be broken at the Bulwell site by April 2002.
