Ordnance Survey is the title sponsor of a new outdoors-orientated consumer show due to be staged at the NEC just two weeks after David Hyde's cycle trade show

REVISED: OS sponsors an outdoor consumer show

The Ordnance Survey Outdoors Show ("adventures start here") will be staged 15-17th March 2002 at Birmingham NEC.

The event is supported by the Outdoors Industries Assocation (nee COLA), EMAP Active publishing, Berghaus and Karrimor. The show owner and organising company is Brand Events of London who produce the Good Food Show and the Tomorrow’s World Show.

The core target audience is walkers and climbers but there’s also a cycling element, called ‘trail biking’.

This is the term for mountain biking used by EMAP Active who last year lost a bunch of cash relaunching On Your Bike magazine. EMAP Active publishes Trail and Country Walking magazines.

Brand Events have a very modest visitor target of just 25 000 consumers, although the event will be put in front of what Brand Events claims will be 5 million consumers.

The show will be a very hands-on, touchy-feely event with ‘tent city’, torch testing caves, ice caves and indoor adventure racing.

To sponsor a whole ‘area’ will cost £30k to £80k.
