At yesterday's Cramlington HQ start of the Scott roadshow, general manager Ian Hughes revealed that the sales total in April was "our best month of trading ever."

Hughes set up the Scott UK office eight years ago.

He reported dramatic year-end growth for the g-Zero strike bikes, up by 500 percent. Road bike sales were up by 300 percent. Leisure and trekking bike sales were up by 80 percent.

"All this has been achieved in a domestic market that has found consumer spending cautious, not just in the leisure market but right across the board. All European countires have found consumer confidence and spending very cautious.

"In the Scott sports group, the UK and Switzerland were the only two countries to increase business over the last year, everywhere else has seen a decrease."
