Bikeregister.com was launched in 2000 as a high-volume bike registration and protection scheme.

It's an online logbook system linked to a secure database which records identification and ownership details, and is directly accessible by police authorities throughout the UK.

Two options are available - registration and logbook for £5.95, or for ultimate security the inclusion of a police readable electronic tag, which is inserted into the bike frame and cannot be removed. The full tag and registration kit costs £10.

Bikeregister was the idea of Steve Benarr, a former IBD, who worked for Pericom plc, a company specialising in IT applications.

Chris Boardman was appointed as sales manager in April this year.

Both Boardman and Benarr have agreed terms with specialist security company Selectamark of Locksbottom in Kent.

Under the ownership of Selecamark, bikeregister.com will be beefed up. It will become fully accredited to the Loss Prevention Board's LPS 1225 standard and licensed by Secured by Design.

Selectamark is the sole supplier of security transponders to the caravan trade and has just won the contract to supply the British Marine Industries Federation. As well as buying bikeregister.com, Selectamark has absorbed two other registration schemes, the Bicycle Security Register (BSR) and National Cycle Registration (NCR).
