Steven Norris gets back on his bike

Minister for Transport John Spellar today appointed Steven Norris as the first Chair of the National Cycling Strategy Board.

Norris will co-ordinate the implementation of the National Cycling Strategy. The Board will meet every two months to take forward cycling initiatives to the annual meeting of the National Cycling Forum.

Welcoming the appointment, John Spellar said:

"Cycling plays an important part in our integrated transport policies and I am delighted that Steve Norris will be able to act as Board Chair. I’m looking forward to working with him as we take forward the implementation of the National Cycling Strategy."

Norris said:

"I am a great supporter of cycling and am very happy to be able to accept this appointment. I have had a keen interest in the National Cycling Strategy since I was a Transport Minster and I look forward to working with the Government to increase levels of cycling in this country."

Norris will be serving as Chair of the National Cycling Strategy Board for three years in a voluntary position. This is a part-time appointment expected to take the equivalent of one day a week. An announcement on the composition and structure of the Board will be made later this year.
