Stockbroker fired for cyclist hit and run ‘joke’

A stockbroker’s tweet, apparently confessing to his hitting a cyclist then driving off, has led to his dismissal. 

As reported by BuzzFeed and plenty of other outlets, Rayhan Qadir tweeted: "Think I just hit a cyclist. But Im late for work so had to drive off lol."

His throwaway tweet was picked up by the police and major news outlets before Qadir claimed it was a "bad joke". It was too late for him, however, with his employer telling The Telegraph that it had sacked him for "failing to conduct himself to the standards it expects of staff" adding: "We find these online comments totally unacceptable."
