Strava adds cycle sat nav function

Route Builder tool and back to start function makes getting lost that little bit harder
Publish date:

Strava has added a sat nav upgrade, allowing users to create rides which they and others can then follow.

The upgrade collates regularly ridden local routes and will share what would otherwise be 'local knowledge' with anyone looking for a more efficient or adventurous path.

Building in a 'back to start' function, the app is also now able to generate quick routes home should the weather take a turn for the worse.

“Since the debut of our Route Builder tool last fall hundreds of thousands of routes have been created on Strava,” said Alex Mather, vice president of product and user experience at Strava. “Now our members can plan new places to run and ride and explore them with confidence using our mobile app.”

Just last month the developers behind Strava also revealed that it is now able to sell real ride data to local authorities who want to better understand local riding habits.

Strava’s mobile app, version 4.1, is available in the App Store and Google Play today. The app is free and comes with the option of Premium membership that provides in-depth analytics, motivational tools like instant results, and member- only rewards and benefits. Strava Premium membership is available for $6 USD per month or $59 per year.
