Suppliers are more positive about the future than IBDs

That's one of the trends evident from the fortnight-by-fortnight tracking of IBD and supplier confidence on the BikeBiz barometer. Is this because IBDs are at the sharp-end and meet consumer confidence head on?

Possibly.

Anyway, here's one supplier looking forward to a positive year of trading. Ian Beasant, head of marketing at Giant UK, says he can feel 2003 will be a good year, partly because Giant bikes won three out of the six Bike of the Year awards in the January Cycling Plus magazine.

“These awards are great news to us and prove that innovation wins over price every time. Accolades from a respected magazine such as Cycling Plus give us a huge boost – last year Giant sold out of the OCR 2 following its award from Cycling Plus for Budget Bike of the year. The tell-tale signs of a good year for Giant are here already: the TCR Carbon frame, which was praised in the December issue of the magazine, is already in high demand.”

The C+ Bike of the Year award went to the Giant TCR Carbon. There were also top gongs for the FCR1 (Commuter/Street Bike of the Year) and the TCR Carbon frameset (Frameset of the Year).

NB

This fortnight's Barometer results will be available on Wednesday. IBDs and suppliers are voting right now.
