Surrey Council announces iPhone app for Olympic cycling events

Surrey Council has created an iPhone/iPad app designed to share information on the Olympic cycling events, attractions in the area, stalls and even local businesses.

The ‘Surrey Road Cycling’ app acts as a digital spectator guide showing the routes of the Olympic road race and time trial events, as well as the locations of ‘live sites’ where there will be big screens showing the races, stalls and other activities.Other information ranges from the locations of train stations and where to find a toilet.

There is also a live link to the @gosurreylive Twitter feed that will provide live race commentary as well as essential information about road closures and re-openings.

Helyn Clack, Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services and the 2012 Games, said: “Inevitably staging sporting events of this scale will cause disruption, so the more information people have at their fingertips about what is going on the better.”

The men’s and women’s Olympic cycling road races will take place on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 July. The time trials will be staged on Wednesday 1 August.
