Sustrans tackles the ‘sex factor’

Charity follows up Bikebelles launch with presence at Vitality Show to get more women into cycling
Publish date:

Sustrans is continuing its quest of encouraging women to get on bikes with a presence at the forthcoming Vitality Show at Earls Court.

The tenth annual Vitality Show, held from Thursday March 26th to Sunday March 29th, is said to be the UK’s largest female-centric health, beauty, fitness and healthy-living show.

The news comes hot on the heels of Sustran’s recently revealed Bikebelles website – a portal specifically aimed at encourages females to take up cycling.

The sustainable transport charity's latest research shows that a huge 79 per cent of women in Britain are strangers to the world of cycling.

Sustrans’ Kate Jones will be at the Vitality show: “Cycling is a great way for women to get in shape and stay in shape. It can be incorporated into the daily routine – cycling to work or to the shops instead of driving, for instance – and regular cyclists can expect to be as fit as an average person ten years younger.”

Jones added: “Cycling is a cheap, zero-carbon method of travel and there's no need to invest in special clothes or equipment – a bike is all anyone needs to get started.”
