The award was given in recognition of the recently completed artwork on the Phoenix Trail from Thame to Princes Risborough on the Oxfordshire/Buckinghamshire border.

The path, part of Route 57 of the National Cycle Network, and is popular with local cyclists and walkers.

Sustrans co-ordinates an "Art in the Travelling Landscape" programme designed to work with partners and local communities to produce attractive and useful landmarks and features for those traversing the National Cycle Network.

The 30 pieces of public art produced for the Phoenix Trail are part of this

expanding programme.

Ercol Furniture Ltd, who had recently moved to Princes Risborough, making them the largest local employer, wanted to contribute to their local environment. The works of art were produced by local artists, in partnership with Ercol's own apprentices,

design team and the local furniture students from Rycotewood College.

Since 1978 the Arts & Business Awards have been the UK's premier Awards to reward business in excellence in partnerships with the arts, highlighting outstanding and creative examples of what happens when "culture and commerce meet and inspire future

collaborations."
