Tebbits phrase recycles

On yer bike! This was a phrase made famous by Norman Tebbits jibe for unemployed folk to travel to find work. The concept is to be resurrected by the Government, reports The Times

The UK government is set to announce they'll lend money to unemployed people to buy cars and bikes so they can take up jobs, says a report in The Times.

£1.5m will be targeted at unemployment blackspots around Britain to help remove obstacles which stop people taking up work.

The package will be unveiled by Employment Minister Tessa Jowell when she announces the first three of 40 planned "unemployment hit squads".

A lack of public transport is a main reason given by many people for declining job offers.

The cash on offer will be hundreds of pounds, not thousands. On the upside it could lead to a few more bike sales, on the downside it could reinforce perceptions of cycling as poor mans transport.

Should cars be bought and not bikes which is more likely it may lead to some cheap and dodgy cars on the roads!
