Tended Protect to provide life-saving assistance to cyclists - BikeBiz
Wearable device uses AI to provide real-time accident detection and assistance in seconds

Tended has opened its first batch of pre-orders for a new personal safety device for cyclists.

The Tended Protect uses AI to provide real-time accident detection, being able to identify accidents as soon as they happen and request assistance in seconds.

It combines four intelligent safety features to automatically detect if a user has been involved in an accident: a pre-set check-in feature, fall and movement detector and SOS call function.

Tended founder Leo Scott Smith said: “We wanted to create something that protected outdoor sports enthusiasts but was so much more than just a panic button, and with the Tended Protect, we’ve built a wearable device that is so smart it can detect an accident as and when it happens.

“It can support you for when you’re out mountain biking or simply riding your bike during your daily commute."

The devices are available to pre-order with a discount of up to 45 per cent for early adopters, with delivery in January 2019.

The Tended Protect uses Bluetooth Low Energy to connect with a nearby smartphone and users can set their profile to contain all their key medical data such as blood type, allergies and medical history.

If the device believes the user is in trouble it will prompt them to check-in as safe, through a powerful vibration known as a safety check, offering optimum protection with minimum chances of false alarms.

If the user does not respond to the check-in, or if an accident is detected, the Tended Protect will automatically send an emergency alert to predetermined emergency contacts.

The alert sends out potentially life-saving data, including their GPS location, health data and activity information.

Contacts are then able to call the emergency services if needed, or request to speak to the user via their phone’s loudspeaker.

The aim is to provide users and their loved ones’ reassurance, so everyone can enjoy the activities they love without the worry about potential risks.

The wearer can also make an SOS call at any time by using a pre-set click pattern.

The Tended Protect also has a fitness tracker and can connect to other fitness tracking apps, allowing the user to count steps, calories and distance.
