Tern wins Red Dot design award

Third international design award for new folding bike company.

Tern's Verge Duo bicycle has won a 2012 Red Dot design award for product design.

Josh Hon, Tern vice president, said:

"It's great to be recognized for the Verge Duo because we work hard to achieve clean, functional design."

Joakim Uimonen, Tern's chief designer, said:

"Although the Verge Duo looks clean and simple, a tremendous amount of engineering and design effort went into it. It incorporates seven new patented technologies and over thirty custom toolings. The finished package rides extraordinarily well, yet folds in less than ten seconds."

1,800 manufacturers and designers from 58 countries submitted 4,515 products for consideration for a Red Dot award by a panel of 30 international experts. Red Dot awards have been presented since the 1950s.

Last year Tern received a Eurobike Award for the Eclipse S11i, and earlier this year bagged a Taipei Cycle Design & Innovation Award at the 2012 Taipei Cycle Show for the Verge X10. Both of these awards were judged by iF, the International Forum Design.
