IBD The Rush has joined forces with Forestry Commission Scotland to open the new centre.

Jeremy Thompson of Forestry Commission Scotland said the venture should be a great success:

"The 7stanes project is building a world class reputation for its mountain bike trails but we think to improve on this, and to bring new people into the sport, you need to offer more.

"A cafe, bike hire and a workshop to handle repairs is going to be a great asset to the 7stanes at Newcastleton. We are really pleased that Susan and Tony from The Rush are taking up the challenge."

The Euro-funded 7stanes project has now built seven mountain bike trails across the south of Scotland. In the Borders the project has had success with business start ups in the Tweed Valley, such as the Hub in the Forest at Glenntress.

Susan Yates of The Rush said:

"We are really pleased to be opening the mountain bike centre at Newcastleton and feel it is a very exciting opportunity for us. We will be open every Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4.20pm right through till the spring when we hope to extend our opening days. We will also be open on Tuesdays from 2pm till 9.30pm to cater for people who want to come night riding throughout the winter. There's also bike hire, a café and workshop services on offer."
