Cytech has joined up with free online training platform Myagi to search for the UK’s most knowledgeable bike mechanic or sales advisor. Why? To further extend training knowledge, showcase the most up to date training techniques and highlight the level of talent in the UK bike industry, the duo said.

The Cytech Challenge has also been designed to highlight the importance of training staff in store. With increased competition from online and corporate retailers, both Cytech and Myagi believe that staff in IBDs are the industry’s most valuable asset and so investing in staff offers the best way to increase sales and improve face to face customer service. It’s also been proven that offering good training incentives helps retain staff for longer (PWC 2011), which is a win win all round.

“Development in the bike industry is exciting, fast paced and technical," said Jonathan Harrison, marketing director for ACT. "The importance of having professional bike technicians with all the right product knowledge at their finger tips is crucial to business success. The ACT has always supported the development of individuals in the cycle trade and we clearly see the value of online learning platforms, such as Myagi, to help raise the standard of retail staff.”

Business development manager for Myagi Richard Smith added: “We are delighted to be working with Cytech to build awareness of the importance of training within the cycle industry. Customers are doing more and more research themselves before entering the store and bikes and accessories are becoming more technical and changing more frequently. This puts a huge pressure on bike shop staff to have the knowledge they need to meet customers’ needs on the shop floor or in the workshop. Therefore, it’s essential that sales advisors and workshop mechanics not only have the right knowledge but also the confidence and skill to know how and when to use it.”

Cytech and Myagi invite all those in the bike industry to sign up for free at http://myagi.com/signup/cytech/ and take the Cytech mechanic quiz. The winner will be announced on www.cytech.training on 24th March 2016.
