Zwift, the gaming-to-cycling company, has partnered with Richmond 2015, the organisers of September’s UCI Road World Championships, to create a digital version of the course. This will enable pro riders – and amateurs – to train on the course without visiting. The digital version of the course will be available later in the summer.
Zwift uses multiplayer video game technology to deliver a social and entertaining indoor cycling experience. The platform is currently free for riders to download and use.
Riders will get a feel for the world championship course by connecting trainers, power meters, heart rate monitors and so forth to Zwift’s version of the Richmond 2015 route. “In less than a year, we have attracted a global network of riders,” said Zwift Co-Founder and CEO Eric Min, “so having the world championships as the first event that we create a virtual version of is fitting.”
Organisers of the UCI Road World Championships in Richmond are also promoting sponsorship opportunities within the game.
