Unnnnn, nnn-nnn, nnnn-nnnn, urrrrrrrr

For those kids who like making revving sounds when cycling, Tomax Ltd of Ireland has just the thing: the Turbo-Spoke. This is an attach-to-the-chainstays 'exhaust' that uses the motion of the bike to create motorbike noises. It'll be a Christmas hit, reckons Tomax Ltd, and there's a PR campaign rolling out soon.

The Turbospoke is loud (there's a five-second MP3 file on the company's website) and the exhaust lookalike has a reflector too, thus the product is being sold as a safety device as well as a way for boys to pretend they are Super-Bike racers.

The product does not need batteries. It was designed by Coolfin of Ireland.

"High demand is anticipated. Research suggests extremely high parent and grandparent gift appeal," says the Tomax website.

Turbospoke's are dispatched with standalone cardboard POS units and are backed up with Turbospoke character's and collecting cards.

Turbospoke will be launched to the UK bike trade at Cycle 2003 in Islington at the end of the month. International distributors are being sought.
