The CTC has praised the success of Workplace Cycle Challenge initiatives in two towns in the UK.
Woking and Darlington both took part in the scheme and saved a combined total of 44,950 car miles and 5,695kg of Co2 emissions.
The CTC has told BikeBiz that the next challenges are planned for Wolverhampton and Taunton. The organisation is also keen to hear from any area, town or city that is interested in taking part in the challenge.
420 people from 40 organisations took part in the Woking Challenge, which saved 20,807 car miles over two weeks, while 382 people from 33 organisations saved 24,143 car miles in Darlington over three weeks.
Of the Darlington scheme, Challenge Coordinator Graham Dean enthused: “When people get back on a bike they realise it isn’t as hard or as scary they thought – it’s actually fun and easy."
Dean added: "It is very encouraging that we have inspired so many people in Darlington to start cycling. Cycling improves your health, saves you money and also helps reduce congestion and pollution for everybody.”
