The Pro-Guard is produced from clear, riot-shield plastic and is said to drastically reduce wear and tear on bicycles it is fitted to.
Peter Evans hoped to sign an OEM deal with a UK MTB distributor but due to the flat market, the deal fell through, said Evans.
He developed his Pro-Guard after quickly wearing out parts on his mountain bike.
“It was costing me 10p per mile,” he told bikebiz.co.uk.
“I ride in a sandy area and I found my sprockets were wearing out after only 50 miles, chains after only 80 miles.”
The Pro-Guard was his answer.
“When you go for a muddy ride you realise all the mud collects on the Pro-Guard and not on the bike. It’s clear so it’s hard to spot at first but it soon collects all the mud!”
The device only fits bikes with front sprockets of 48 teeth or less.
It retails for £19.95 plus £3.00 postage from Evans’ website, http://www.pro-guard.co.uk However, he feels it has international potential and is seeking UK and overseas distributors.
