The Met Office long-range weather report available at www.meto.gov.uk/sec3/sec3pg4.html says the month of May is going to be a corker.
01 May 2000 to 28 May 2000. Dry and rather warm weather is expected to dominate most areas through much of the period. Possibly very dry, warm and sunny at first.
This is brilliant news for the bike trade.
Yesterdays fine weather brought out the lapsed cyclists in their hordes. Bike shops will start to feel the knock on from this next week but BikeBiz spoke to two hire centres to see what their weekends were like.
Both Rutland Water Cycling and Bridge Bike Hire on the Camel Trail reported extremely good business. All of Nigel Wiggetts 400 bikes were out on the Camel Trail, and most of them went out at least twice.
We were really motoring. A little bit of weather makes a helluva difference. Very encouraging.
It was a similar story in Leicestershire although Paul Archer of Rutland Water Cycling said the Rutland weather wasnt as good as elsewhere in the country:
We were busy but we didnt break any records. But take a look at the Met Office long range weather forecast, that will please everybody in the bike trade. Ive been looking at this forecast since last April and have found it to be very accurate.
