South London's Wheels for Wellbeing missed out on being named the UK’s Best Sport Project in The National Lottery Awards 2012.

Despite beating hundreds of projects from around the UK to make it to the finals of the awards, and receiving more than 5,200 votesin the final round of voting, Back to Netball – a programme of activity encouraging women to return to sport across England – beat it to the finish.

“The National Lottery Awards recognise the life-changing difference that Lottery-funded projects make to communities, and Wheels for Wellbeing is a shining example of this," said Jackie O’Sullivan from the National Lottery Awards. "Reaching the finals was an amazing achievement, and everyone involved should be very proud.”

WfW representatives will attend a star-studded awards ceremony in London on December 8th, which will be shown on BBC One and hosted by actor John Barrowman.

Wheels for Wellbeing – a supporter of disability cycling – has received £330,620 Lottery funding from the BIG Lottery Fund. Had it won the category it would have received a £2,000 cash prize to spend on the project.
