City boosts cycle credentials; Riders to go head-to-head in brand new bike event

York Cycling City Races debut this month

Competitive cyclists will be spinning into action in the first ever York Cycling City Races later this month.

The tourism-boosting races have been organised by Cycling City York, Clifton Cycling Club and British Cycling.

The event will see races for amateurs and professionals take place through the heart of the picturesque city.

Visit York’s chief exec Gillian Cruddas has welcomed the plans.

Cruddas said: “York is fast gaining a reputation as one of the best cities for cycling in the UK and we are second only to Cambridge in terms of numbers of residents who cycle per population.

"There are more cycling trails, guided rides and hire facilities in and around York than ever before. Events such as this will help us to raise York’s profile nationally and internationally as a superb place to cycle and enjoy the great outdoors.”

The York Cycling City Races will take place on Sunday July 25th.
